Attitude:

Please understand: this isn’t just a “place to live.” It’s a membership in a living farm project—a home, a food system, and a shared set of spaces we care for together.

We’re collectively responsible for maintaining and improving shared infrastructure, tending the orchard and gardens, and continuing the long-term vision of a thriving food forest for years to come.

This also means it isn’t a typical rental. There isn’t a landlord to call when something breaks or when a job needs doing—we’re the stewards. Members are expected to show up with care, reliability, and pride in what we’re building.

Membership fees aren’t simply “rent.” Monthly contributions support the real costs of keeping the farm running: maintenance and repairs, garden and farm supplies, tools and equipment, the agricultural lease and infrastructure, and a buffer for improvements and emergencies.

It’s also not a strict work-trade arrangement with fixed hours. Farm life is seasonal: some weeks are lighter, and some require more support—especially during harvest, weather events, or the occasional surprise (like frozen pipes, a leak, or orchard pests). We share the workload in a way that’s fair and sustainable, and we aim to plan well so the responsibilities don’t fall on one person.

While work traders do a bulk of the physical labour, long-term members take on more of a role of stewards - overseeing, directing, teaching, planning and making decisions.

The goal is simple: shared responsibility, shared abundance, and a beautiful place to live. That shared rhythm also means flexibility—members can travel and rely on one another to keep things going, and then return the support when someone else needs time away.

What is expected of long term resident members

  • Participation in meetings and decision making
  • Accountability, reliability, honesty and good communication
